Miller currently serves as non-executive chairman of the board of drugstore chain Rite Aid and was also chief executive of Rite Aid from December 1999 until June 2003. Prior to that, he served as vice chairman and chief operating officer of US food retailer Kroger. He joined Kroger in 1999 when the company acquired Fred Meyer, where he had served as CEO since 1991. Miller started his food retail career at Albertson’s, where he spent 30 years in several senior management positions.
Miller replaces John Shields as Wild Oats’ chairman of the board. Shields elected to step down as chairman earlier this year, but continues to serve as a director on the company’s board.
