Danish Crown has acquired local paté maker Tjæreborg Leverpostej for an undisclosed sum.
Tulip, a subsidiary of Danish Crown, told just-food it plans for Tjaereborg to continue operating under its existing name with a renewed “focus on development and innovation”. The acquisition “will and should result in increased market and consumer insight as well as administrative benefits” for Tjaereborg, Tulip said.
Tulip CEO Kasper Lenbroch said the acquisition was part of Danish Crown’s “4WD strategy” for growth. Lenbroch said the company already had a liver paté production site in Aabenraa but added “With the acquisition of Tjaereborg, we will have even better opportunities to produce the specialised niche products and delicacy-ranges that the market demands”.
Lenbroch said liver paté “is a very traditional” sector in Denmark “of which we want to be the preferred supplier”. He added: “Tjaereborg is a dedicated liver paté maker with a focus on craftsmanship, innovation and passion.”
Tulip said it has taken on Tjaereborg’s workforce of around 25. The firm was founded in 1979 by butcher Erik Allerslev in the town of Tjaereborg, near Esbjerg, where Tulip produces soups under its MOU brand.
Tjaereborg’s former plant director Karsten Engebaek has been the company’s “main shareholder” since 2015, Tulip said, although the company declined to give details.
