Russian meat processor Cherkizovo Group received permission this month to ship poultry products to Iraq, adding to existing export permits for Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Tanzania and the European Union.
After meeting strict halal foods requirements, the company’s Penza-based Vasilyevskaya poultry farm was granted the export rights by the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture, the London and Moscow-listed firm said in a statement on 28 August.
Cherkizovo’s biggest poultry production facility was also deemed as being compliant with meat sourcing in accordance with Muslim principles by the Halal International Centre for Standardisation and Certification of the Council of Muftis of Russia.
The group’s halal brands are produced under Latifa and Dajajti labels and are intended for both export and the domestic market.
