US meat processor Swift & Company has announced the strategic repositioning of its Greeley-based beef processing capabilities to significantly expand the company’s production of value-added products.
The company said the changes, which will be completed by mid-December, are the latest in a multiple-step process announced two years ago designed to establish Swift as the world’s leading meat company.
The company plans to adjust the operations at its Greeley, Colorado beef plant to focus more on the creation of higher-margin value-added products, rather than primary processing of livestock. Some primary processing will still occur at the Greeley plant, but the remainder will be taken up by other plants at Grand Island, Nebraska and Cactus, Texas.
“Enhancing the Greeley facility is a very cost-effective way to expand our presence in the growing value-added beef product market, and it’s a perfect fit with our new Customer Solutions/R&D facility in Greeley, which will be completed in March 2005,” said John Simons, president and CEO of Swift & Company.
